With the Conservative government committed to a massive programme of building new motorways and trunk roads, Britain’s largest road rescue organisation is reminding drivers of the perils of breaking down on major highways.
Safety experts at the Automobile Association have produced guidelines for any drivers involved in a breakdown on a motorway or A-road. Do all your business drivers know them?
The safe response to a breakdown starts with:
“Get your vehicle off the road if possible and warn other traffic by using your hazard warning lights,” says the AA.

As the motorway network grows, the AA is also stressing the specific driving rules and tips that apply to driving on these routes. There have been changes to tackle tailgating and hogging the middle lane in the last few years that older drivers may not be aware of. Do all your drivers know them?
